The Land Down Under is getting tough on gambling by minors. New regulations mandate that internet betting platforms confirm the age and identification of all users *prior* to allowing them to wager. This replaces the former 72-hour timeframe operators were given to finalize these verifications.
This action aims to significantly increase the difficulty for young people to gamble on the internet and to stop those who have willingly excluded themselves from wagering websites through the BetStop initiative from falling through the gaps.
Kai Cantwell, leader of the Responsible Wagering Australia (RWA) organization, highlighted that this is a significant measure in diminishing money laundering and other illicit actions.
The overwhelming majority of RWA members were already confirming users rapidly, but this aligns everyone and establishes a high standard for the sector.
Cantwell commended the government for taking this action, stating that it will enable betting firms to promote responsible gambling resources more efficiently, such as urging users to establish boundaries upon registration.
The RWA and the government have collaborated to develop a strong set of consumer safeguards for online wagering, many of which are now integrated into the National Consumer Protection Framework.
Mrs. Cantwell stressed Responsible Wagering Australia’s (RWA) dedication to actively engaging in the forthcoming National Consumer Protection Framework (NCPF) evaluation. The aim is to guarantee that consumer safety protocols are robust and address the requirements of Australians in managing their wagering habits responsibly.
She added that internet-based gaming providers already furnish the utmost level of protection for users by gathering individual client information in real time. This enables providers to step in promptly if they observe atypical or worrisome betting patterns. Nevertheless, for harm mitigation tactics to be genuinely impactful, regulations must be implemented uniformly across all types of gambling, not solely online.
