An ACMA representative, Fiona Cameron, emphasized that this initiative aims to safeguard Australians, particularly those susceptible to gambling-related issues. These illicit websites frequently decline to distribute winnings and exploit individuals struggling with addictive behaviors.
The watchdog’s authority to block these websites stems from a 2017 amendment to the Interactive Gambling Act of 2001, and they have been making substantial progress in combating illegal online gambling ever since.
